“Writing in the Kitchen Sink” captures my musings about books and the writing life. How to carve out a creative life no matter what else is going on. All in hopes that it might be useful or interesting for you.
The title refers to the opening line of one of my favorite books, I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. The heroine, Cassandra, records observations about her eccentric family in her notebook, writing anywhere, any time.
The catch-as-catch-can nature of her habit is apt for my current stage of life. As a working mom, I could be writing at my desk at 5:30 a.m., or on my lunch break. Sometimes I score a few hours of uninterrupted writing time, but mostly I feel like I’m sitting in the kitchen sink. Anyone out there feel the same?
